This is a great question, and one I get asked frequently! I’ve been taking photos for more than a decade—-I know the amount of work it takes to get your family ready and out the door for a photo session. It is hard work and stressful no matter what ages you are working with in your family! But imagine you show up and your child isn’t cooperating for the first 15-20 minutes because they fell asleep in the car on the way there. Or they are a little scared meeting a new person in a strange location. These are things I encounter regularly with clients. Some times I just play games and sing songs with the toddler until they are comfortable with me, or maybe your fiance, teenager or husband need a little time to loosen up before they are comfortable with photos. This extra time can allow tensions to lower and then the photo magic begins and I get genuine smiles. During my sessions there isn’t pressure for the kids (or even adults) to cooperate and be perfect when they get out of the car, there is room to allow conversation and laughter. I want everyone to walk away from a session and feel joy. That can happen when there isn’t pressure to get it done and perfect specific time frame.
If you need a session to be short I am happy to accommodate your request, but my pricing structure stays the same.

Yes! I want everyone to feel great about their photos of themselves. I provide light editing at no extra cost.
If your teen has especially bad acne there may be an additional charge of $25-50 if a lot of extra time editing is required.

When do you schedule newborn photos? Newborn photos are scheduled on weekday mornings in your home. It is best to reach out and let me know your due date so I can have you on my calendar. This planning will get you priority scheduling after baby is born.
How old is the baby when you do photos? Newborn photos are best done when the baby (or babies) are 5-10 days old. If you have a traumatic delivery or the baby needs more time to recover from jaundice or other issues it is OK. I have done newborn photos on babies that are several weeks-1 month old. I am happy to work with your circumstances! Most fathers only have a short time off for paternity leave so I try to work within that window of time. Some newborn poses can only be done when the baby is 5-10 days old.
How do I schedule my session? Text me as soon as your sweet baby has arrived (most moms are still in the hospital) and we will set up a day and time that works best for your family.
What can I do to prepare before the baby is born? Send photos of the areas of your home that you were wanting to capture photos of your family. Most families do photos in the nursery, master bedroom, living room, or outside (front porch, backyard, weather pending). These photos help me know how to prepare for the shoot and what kind of lighting is needed.
What should my newborn wear? I provide many wrap color options for you to pick from for photos. It is best if newborns are wrapped so that they are more content for photo sessions. This allows for ease of movement of baby from one family member to another without waking the baby. If you have specific colors in mind please let me know! If I don’t have a color you want and there is enough time in advance I will try to get the color you prefer.
Can my baby wear an outfit? While this is possible, It does make the session more challenging especially for family photos.
Do you provide hats, hair bows, baskets and blankets? Yes! I have MANY options for accessories. Some of the decisions will be made before I come to your house (preferred types of baskets & themes), some are made at your house (preferred bows, hats).
Can I incorporate a family heirloom or special item into the photos? Yes! I am happy to take photos of your baby with a blanket from your childhood, grandma’s Rosary, your wedding ring, bridal veil, or seasonal item (Christmas, Valentines, etc). Just mention the items in advance so that I can know to incorporate it in my shot list.
What is best for the family to wear for photos? Neutral colors are best so that the baby can be the focus. Warm tones typically photograph better than cool tones: Beige, cream, browns, sage greens, warm pinks/mauve, warm grays, warm blues. It is best to avoid bright colors and busy patterns. If you want your baby to wear a color (blue, pink, green, purple) it is better if the rest of the family is wearing neutral colors. If you want your family to wear colors then I suggest the baby be in a neutral color (white, cream, beige, brown). The goal is to create contrast so that the baby stands out.
Does the baby wear different color for their portraits? Yes! You will pick a color for family photos and a color for the baby’s newborn portraits. I also have some little outfits that you can choose from (knit overalls, tutu skirts) for portraits as well. Most sessions I can get 2-3 different colors/outfits in for the newborn portraits, depending on baby cooperation.
How long do newborn sessions last? The “typical” session lasts about 1.5-3 hours. The family photos take about 45-60m depending on if we do photos in one room or multiple rooms. It also depends on if there are multiple siblings. I work as fast as I can with the variables provided. I have been doing this for more than a decade and I have learned to be patient and adapt to the baby’s needs. Some sessions require more frequent feedings, diaper changes, & soothing than others. Sometimes siblings need time to warm up to me before they will cooperate. Honestly, I don’t really look at my watch during a shoot. I take the time needed to capture the photos you will cherish forever.
****How do I prepare the morning of the shoot? Have your baby fed, wrapped in a blanket and in JUST a dry diaper(No onsie, outfit or sleeper). This allows me to swaddle/wrap baby more easily after you pick the color wrap you prefer.

How do I pick the time of year I want for my senior photos? Think about what you want to be wearing in your photos. Do you prefer summery type outfits or warmer layers? Do you want to be tan in your photos? Does your school have standards for how you cut your hair or if you can have facial hair? If yes, you might want to do photos before school starts.
How many outfits can I have for my session? You can have up to THREE outfits for a standard session time frame. If you want more than three there is an additional fee to add more time to the session. Coats, sweaters or anything that goes over an outfit does NOT count toward your three. You are not required to have three outfits.
How long is a senior session? I tell clients to allow for about 1.5-2 hours for your session. This builds in time for the outfit changes and walking to different spots of the location. I typically take about 20min of photos in each outfit. Time goes by quickly!
Can I do photos at more than one location? Yes, but there may be an additional fee if the drive between locations requires more time. I have a couple locations that are easy to pair together.
Can you suggest a location for my session? Yes, I have many tried and true locations that work perfectly for seniors. Just let me know if you want urban, nature or a combo of the two and I can give you options.
Can I pick a location you have never shot at before? Yes, but there may be a “scouting” fee if I have to arrive early to find the best light and areas to shoot photos. Just because a location is “pretty or cool” does not mean it is ideal for photos. My first priority is good lighting, finding spots that work with the available light for the time of day we are shooting.
What time of day do you recommend for photos? The best light is a few hours before sunset or when the sun is rising in the morning. Some locations have more flexibility than others when it comes to light. I will give you exact times for the season and location you prefer.
What should I wear for my senior photo session? Most seniors pick one dressy outfit and one casual outfit. Be sure to pick an outfit that fits well with the location you want for photos. If you are wanting a nature setting it is best to pick warm, neutral color tones because bright colors can look out of place when you are surrounded by green. If you want an urban vibe you can go with bright vibrant colors more easily. Photos in a field setting look best with flowy dresses or rustic outfits like jeans and boots. This is another example of thinking through what you want to wear before locking in a location or time of year.
Can we take a family photo at our child’s senior session? Absolutely! If you choose this option the family part of the session is during the first 15-20min of the senior session. This counts as one outfit for the senior. This will mean that the senior portion of the session is shorter. If you want to add on family photos to a senior session without affecting the senior time you can do that by paying a fee for extra time.
Does a parent have to be with the senior at their session? No—I frequently do senior photos with just the senior. Sometimes the parents want to be surprised when the photos are delivered. Sometimes the parents know that the senior will do better without a parent watching. Or sometimes it is just difficult to schedule the session when a parent can attend.
Can I bring a friend to support and help me during the senior session? Absolutely! Bring your BFF to help you with your hair and outfit details. They know the best jokes to get you to laugh

I am interested in Fall Family Photos, when can I schedule? My Fall calendar opens up on August 1st each year as a first come, first serve basis. Most of my returning clients set reminders on their phones to text me on August 1st so they get the date they prefer.
How long is a family session? Most family sessions are about an hour long, depending on locations. If the location requires walking around to different areas the session can be longer. I am happy to go quickly if you prefer to be done faster. Let me know in advance if you prefer efficiency. This normally means I stick to one or two close areas of a location.
Can I do photos at more than one location? Yes, but there may be an additional fee if the drive between locations requires more time. Most family sessions are done at one location.
Can you suggest a location for my session? Yes, I have many tried and true locations that work perfectly for families. Just let me know if you want urban, nature or a combo of the two and I can give you options. Some locations are not ideal for toddlers so it is good to be flexible with location requests if you have small children. Safety is my first priority.
Also keep in mind that some locations charge additional fees for professional photography. The paying of those fees is the responsibly of the client. (with the exception of Union Station, I pay the fee and it is tacked on to your invoice).
What time of day do you recommend for photos? The best light is a few hours before sunset or when the sun is rising in the morning. Some locations have more flexibility than others when it comes to light. I will give you exact times for the season and location you prefer. I can work around children’s nap times but generally I avoid shooting photos during the hours of the day with harshest light (mid-day).
What should we wear for our family photo session? Try to coordinate your outfits with the whole family. This doesn’t mean that you have to dress the same, it just means to pick clothes with colors that compliment each other. There are plenty of resources online to help you pick good color palettes for the season you are taking photos. Be sure to pick outfits that fit well with the location you want for photos.
What kind of photos do you take at a family session? My normal flow for photos at a family session is: family group photos, a photo of each parent with all the children, group photo of just children, individual of each child, group off all the girls, group of all the boys. Photos of just mom & dad, photos of mom and dad with each individual child. I also make sure to take a few fun/silly photos. I promise you will have lots of amazing photos to enjoy after your session.
Can you take a couple of head shots during our family session? Absolutely! Just make sure to tell me this in advance so I can be scouting out a good location for these specific photos.
